From one director to another
Hello everyone. It's Colin. Today I will be blogging about a very productive meeting that I had with a friend, colleague, and fantastic director--who by the way is so very talented--Cat Pilafas. She met with me at the exact same place, where my mentor and cohort in crime, Mr. Darryl Bryant, and I meet: at the uptown Starbucks. She and I discussed many aspects of directing and what I could do in my project to make it my own. One of the things that really stood out to me that she and I discussed was that she and I had very similar interests, and views on directing. I will include detailed notes at the end of this blog, but to summarize what stood out to me about the topic which we discussed, she is a screen director. I am going to be a stage director. Inherently, directing in those two mediums of entertainment are very different. However, even though this metaphorical barrier, we have very similar interests. For instance, I asked Ms. Pilafas, "What tips do you have for me when directing?" She answered me by saying, "Be an actor. If you are a director and you tell someone to do something right now in a very specific way, the actor is not going to listen to the director as intently as if they said, 'keep everything you just did, but add this.'" Even before meeting with her, I was thinking that very same thing, and I told her. I told her that I had been thinking that very thought before I even walked to the Starbucks and purchased my drink. There were a few more ways we thought very much alike, and you can find those in my notes listed below. But for now that's all from me.
